10 Gorgeous Board Books

Yes, believe it or not, Board Books can be attractive too. When my son was born I knew very little about kids books so I just bought all Doctor Seuss books. I found out soon enough that he absolutely did not like the "normal" children's books (too many words, too hard to turn the pages, not tasty enough) and reluctantly found my way through the massive board books that are available. I mean the reluctant part, a lot of board books are ugly adaptations of larger Children's books, or the story is so sickeningly sweet that I have to fight off vomiting.

These are my 10 current favorites. Some of these are fairly well known, some of them I only know about because I have awesome Mom friends who share my obsession for well designed Children's books. And yes, these books will all make great presents for a couple who's expecting, and 1-4 year olds.

$5.99 on Amazon

I Am A Bunny is my favorite book out of all of my sons books. The illustrations are so incredibly beautiful, there aren't a lot of words and there are loads of different things to look at, count and talk about on each page.

$10.17 on Amazon.

There are two Charlie Harper ABC Board Books, and THIS is the one that you want to get. It is absolutely one of the most gorgeous books I have ever seen in my entire life. A great example of Charlie's work and a great way to introduce your kids to many different new animals.

Rosie's Walk is hilarious. A totally unaware hen manages to continually trip up a fox that is trying to... well... eat her. Great drawings, a bit of a quick read but the detailed images make up for it.

$12.24 on Amazon

I bought my son this box set of Curious George Board Books a few months back and they are a huge hit. My son is so in love with Curious George, and I don't blame him one bit. Great books, always funny, so entertaining, and such great illustrations.

harrythedirtydog.jpg

$7.99 on Amazon.

Harry the Dirty Dog is such a cute story. Harry, a white dog with black spots get sick of being clean and sets out to become a black dog with white spots. He succeeds so throughly that his family doesn't even recognize him. Great spreads, but gets a bit long at times for really impatient little kids. My son really got into this one around 20 months.

$6.99 on Amazon.

My Friends is a super cute book from the writer/illustrator of Everyone Poops, another favorite of mine. Again, lots of animals but also lots of friends - the page with all the kids together and a little boy pulling on the girls pigtails is hilarious. Great type, great layout, great illustration. Win, win, win.

$8.99 on Amazon.

Great Touch and Feel from Paul Frank, High Five with Julius! and Friends really got my son High Fiving. And, of course coming from Paul Frank the design is perfect in every way. High Five Mr. Frank!

$6.99 on Amazon.

I'll admit it, I have always had a rather LARGE amount of disdain for the Winnie the Pooh. He's just such a sissy and as a kid I always thought the stories were boring. Winnie the Pooh's Colors however is filled with delicate but lovely drawings and helps teach colors in a way that's really simple but gorgeous. Love this one.

$4.99 on Amazon.

The Monster at the End of This Book is an AWESOME read. Just straight up wonderful hand drawn 70's lettering on every single page, and a super funny story with lots of opportunities for some funny voices and drama.

snowday.jpg

$6.99 on Amazon.

And last, but not least is The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats. This book is so lovely, the illustration style is very bold and vivid and it's a great story about a city kid playing in the snow.

I'll update later tonight with an amazon list where you can get all ten at once!
